The deer was part of the faune that lived historically in the Pyrenees before its extinction in this area. On the 1981 the species was reintroduced in the mountain range of Boumort with some other speciments from Toledo. 10 years after the Hunt Natural Reserve of Boumort was created to protect its biological diversity. Now, 36 years after its reintroduction, Boumort has the biggest deer population in Catalonia.
During the whole year it’s not difficult to see deers in the surroundings of Taús – that has more than 2000 ha inside the nature reserve. The best moment to see them it’s early in the morning and in the evening. Live the deer rut in Boumort!
